Technical Specifications
Construction: Hand-cut natural basalt stone pieces arranged in mosaic pattern. Individual tesserae cut and fitted to create interlocking mosaic surface. Natural stone finish without additional coating or treatment.
Material: Basalt - volcanic igneous rock composed primarily of pyroxene and plagioclase minerals. Density approximately 3.0 g/cm³. Unpolished natural surface with inherent texture variation typical of quarried stone.
Finish: Natural - preserves original stone surface with minimal processing. No sealant applied at factory; field sealing recommended for moisture-prone installations.
Application & Performance
Primary Applications: Interior wall cladding, kitchen backsplash, accent walls. Suitable for dry-to-moderate moisture environments.
Performance Characteristics: Basalt provides high compressive strength (200-300 MPa). Natural stone surface offers inherent slip resistance. Individual mosaic pieces allow for design flexibility and custom layout patterns.
Limitations: Unsealed natural stone is porous and absorbs moisture. Requires sealing in wet environments (showers, exterior applications). Grout lines in mosaic pattern create maintenance points. Not recommended for high-traffic floor applications due to surface texture and grout joint vulnerability. Installation requires experienced mason familiar with stone mosaic techniques.
